ẸDOMAYE — ẸDO LANGUAGE LEARNING HUB
Preserving the Language. Empowering the Learner.
Ẹdo is the language of the Benin people and an essential part of the cultural heritage of the Benin Kingdom.
Ẹdomaye Legacy Foundation is committed to preserving, documenting and teaching Ẹdo in a clear, consistent and accessible form for children, young people, adults, researchers and members of the Benin diaspora.
This page forms part of the Ẹdomaye Ẹdo Language Learning Hub.
1. LEARN ẸDO STEP BY STEP
Ẹdomaye presents Ẹdo language learning progressively, beginning with foundational vocabulary and expressions and advancing toward sentences, conversations, reading and structured lessons.
Our approach is to preserve the language carefully while maintaining consistent Ẹdomaye orthography.
2. ẸDO NUMERALS
The Ẹdomaye numeral reference begins with the numbers 1–100.
The first ten established forms are:
- Owo
- Eva
- Eha
- Enẹ
- Isẹn
- Ehan
- Ihinron
- Erẹnrẹn
- Ihihirin
- Igbe
For the complete standardized Ẹdo Numerals 1–100, see the dedicated Ẹdomaye Numerals page.
3. BASIC VOCABULARY
Ẹdomaye will progressively develop this section into a structured vocabulary bank.

4. EVERYDAY EXPRESSIONS
This section will contain carefully verified Ẹdo expressions used in ordinary communication.
The expressions will be presented with:
Ẹdo expression → English meaning → Example of usage
This format will help learners understand not only individual words but how they function in real communication.
5. SENTENCE BUILDING
Learning a language requires more than memorising isolated words.
Ẹdomaye will therefore develop progressive sentence lessons covering:
- Simple statements
- Questions
- Answers
- Commands
- Requests
- Greetings
- Introductions
- Everyday conversations
Learners will be encouraged to progress from word → phrase → sentence → conversation.
6. ẸDOMAYE ORTHOGRAPHY
Ẹdomaye is committed to consistent representation of the Ẹdo language.
Special characters and established spellings will be preserved consistently throughout the learning materials.
Where an Ẹdo form has been established as the Ẹdomaye standard, that form will be retained consistently across the website, lessons, publications and educational materials.
7. LEARN, PRACTISE, PRESERVE
Language survives when it is spoken, taught, documented and passed from one generation to another.
Ẹdomaye therefore encourages learners to:
Learn the words.
Speak the language.
Teach the next generation.
Preserve the heritage.
8. WHAT COMES NEXT
The Ẹdomaye Ẹdo Language Learning Hub will progressively expand to include:
